Bal Keshav Thackeray, an Indian politician, was a founding member of a Hindu fundamentalist party called the Shiv Sena. The party's activities are mainly concentrated in Maharashtra, India.

Bal Thackeray was the king of politics who had the power to shut down Maharashtra with one voice, on whose one voice the Shiv Sainiks were always ready to do anything, their one voice was a command.

Bal Thackeray, who played a very important role on the political stage of Maharashtra, from making cartoons with a sentimental message, was a symbol of Marathi pride and Hindutva, whose warm spirit made him the Lord of Shiv Sainiks. The 86-year-old chief of the Shiv Sena was venerated as his Shiv Sainik Bhagwan and his opponents were always giving his friends and opponents a chance to underestimate him politically so that he changed the direction of Maharashtra's politics in every way. He can execute his intentions cleanly. He often preferred to be a kingmaker rather than taking on big responsibilities himself. For some, this lion of Maharashtra was a cultural ideal in itself. He was fully aware of its stature.


Bal Thackeray, who has the power to transform the financial capital of the country into a silence with a gesture of his finger, started his career as a cartoonist in the late 1950s in the English daily Free Press Journal with RK Laxman, but In 1960, he started a new path by launching the cartoon weekly 'Marmik'.

Thackeray founded the Shiv Sena on 19 June 1966 and after that took the responsibility of solving all the problems of the Marathas. He sought job security for the Marathas, who were facing stiff competition from the people of Gujarat and South India.When Shiv Sena was formed in 19 June 1966 the presence of only 18 people by ripping a coconut at half past nine in the morning. Prabodhan Thackeray named the party Shiv Sena. 4 months after the formation of the party, Thackeray announced through the poignant that the Shiv Sena's first rally would be held at Shivaji Park on Dussehra. A few days later someone told them that it was not right to hold the first rally in a big place like Shivaji Park. They should keep a small ground where if people come even less then the ground will be filled. But in the first rally of Shiv Sena held in 1966, so many people gathered that Shivaji Maidan became small.

Bal Thackeray, who describes himself as an admirer of Adolf Hitler, created an army of Marathas in Maharashtra, which he used to provide jobs to Marathas in various textile mills and other industrial units. His efforts made him the 'Hindu heart emperor'.

The Shiv Sena soon took its roots and took over the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in the 1980s with the support of the pro-Marathi mantra. Forging an alliance with the BJP in 1995 was the biggest opportunity in Thackeray's political life and it was on this basis that he tasted power for the first time.

Bal Thackeray was strongly hated by Pakistan, because of his blatant statement and politics of casteism and regionalism, Election Commission banned Thackeray for six years. Under that ban, they could neither vote nor contest elections. Thackeray fought for Hindus throughout his life. If he hated any country in his life, it was Pakistan. That too because of terrorism.

Controversy With Balsaheb Thackeray

During his life struggle, he faced harsh criticisms for promoting regionalism on the basis of ethnic lines.

He faced severe criticism for right-wing hardline Hindu ideology.

In the year 1966, after the establishment of Shiv Sena, he started a campaign against South Indians in Mumbai. In which the local Marathi people were being deprived of jobs as South Indians started working in Mumbai at that time, due to which the local people could not get employment and they had to face unemployment.

In 1969, he was arrested and sent to Yerwada Jail in connection with inciting people in Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute.

He was a staunch critic of Pakistan. Due to this, in the year 1998, he interrupted a Ghazal function of Ghulam Ali.

• In the year 1975, he supported the Emergency declared by Indira Gandhi, which stirred politics.

• In 1984, he was accused of inciting communal riots in Bhiwandi, in which 17 people were killed and more than 100 were injured.

• Many charges were made against him for conspiring Babri Masjid demolition.

After the 1993 Bombay blasts, it was said that Bal Thackeray was one of those who incited communal violence.

• In 1995, he opposed the performance of the Bollywood film "Bombay", a film based on communal riots in Mumbai after the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts.

• Once he faced sarcasm at North Indians saying "One Bihari, hundred sickness". Due to which Nitish Kumar (then Chief Minister of Bihar) lodged a written complaint to the Prime Minister of India. Due to this objectionable remark, Shiv Sena's North India in-charge Jai Bhagwan Goyal resigned, defining Shiv Sena as Khalistan and terrorist organization.

He also insulted APJ Abdul Kalam (the then President of India), as he had not given any formal reply to the death sentence of Afzal Guru.

• In 2007, he faced severe criticism for praising Hitler in an interview in the daily newspaper.

• In the year 2007, during the Shiv Sena rally he defined Muslims as "green poison", which led to his arrest.

He came into controversy when he supported a Tamil terrorist organization- LTTE.

• Social activist Anna Hazare and Bal Thackeray's brother Ramesh Thackeray demanded a CBI inquiry, accusing them of possessing more assets.

Death Of BalaSaheb Thackeray

Balasaheb Thackeray died on 17 November 2012 at 3.30 pm from cardiac arrest.
Bal Thackeray's funeral procession went from his residence "Matoshree" to Shiv Sena Bhavan with a huge crowd of people from Maharashtra and Shiv Sena supporters. The body of Balasaheb Thackeray was taken from Shiv Sena Bhavan with a special truck to the statue of his wife Meena Thackeray at Shivaji Park.


Balasaheb's funeral was broadcast live by almost all the channels of the country. He was given the honor of a 21-gun salute, despite not being any member of the Lok Sabha and Assembly. Such respect is given to very few people in the country.

Many people from abroad and prominent leaders of all political parties took part in Bal Thackeray's funeral.

Bal Thackeray's youngest son Uddhav performed the last rites according to Hindu customs.Jaidev Thackeray stood with younger brother Uddhav when he lit the funeral pyre of Bal Thackeray.

Cousins ​​Uddhav and Raj Thackeray and their families came together for Bal Thackeray's funeral. Raj Thackeray's wife (Shalini), son (Amit), daughter (Urvashi), Uddhav, his wife (Rashmi), along with sons (Aditya, Tejas), were riding on a truck carrying Balaji's body to Shivaji Park. Raj Thackeray was walking on foot with the public behind the body of his uncle.
